In all domestic species, acceptable pregnancy rates with frozen-thawed semen are only achievable with intrauterine insemination. Unlike the cow and the goat, the cervix of the ewe is a formidable barrier to penetration for transcervical intrauterine insemination not only due to the physical size of the canal and a narrow luminal diameter (even at estrus), but also due to it’s caudally facing, eccentric series of four to eight funnel-like rings.
